This is so damn simple when I bothered to actually look at my folders.

Go to:
C:/program files/Steam/SteamApps/Common

Inside there you will find your game download folders and what not. You simply use the .exe from inside your game folder like you would any other game and also make desktop shortcuts if you want. Yes, this was very simple but god damn is it so helpful when I want to play a game without steam running in my taskbar and shit.

This only works on older games, where little to no drm is implemented.

ex. If I do this for SWJKII it works fine. The title is old.
However a game such as spore is not so, and returns an error.
ALL steamworks games do not funtion like this, and a nosteam is needed, taking away the option to go to legit servers whether or not you own the game.
No gmod for u.

Works for GTA4. This is not a old game.

Are you sure steam is not on? If not then Rockstar must not care about piracy. MP will give invalid key errors unless steam is on, as the keys are found in the steam registry, not the one that retail puts it in.

My Portal is not in my common folder. Is it in yours? I do believe I said "COMMON" folder when trying this.

It doesn't work for every game. I clicked on dark sector in my COMMON folder and it just opened up steam. Just thought I should say that.

This method only works with games that are not published officially through Steam. Any games released by Valve or certain mods will not be available to load through the /common directory.
However, games like Killing Floor can be ran through the directory instead of Steam. Because it isn't just published through Steam.
