ODST was never "Alive" as you can only play with friends, so how alive ODST is depends on if your friends play.

The fact that he's stating he (Hence the "I") agrees with a theoretical fact shows that in his opinion, he thinks ODST is dead. In no way did he state that any one else here had the same opinions.

I do want to play some Firefight, but holy shit I just can't stop playing Reach and Bad Company 2. It's like comparing jerking to Playboy to jerking to live sex.

Technically speaking, Halo 3: ODST was NEVER 'Dead' or 'Alive' - Its a Game made of programming and data, it doesn't have life.
But now to be simple, As previously stated, the game was never actually alive - Firefight didn't link you up with anyone, and there was no matchmaking, so the only way to go would be to invite friends to play with you.
Personally, I still play the game from time to time.
