Reach Gulch 4 CSS
26 April 2012 - 07:15 PM
"Reach Gulch 4 CSS has improved Weapon Models, effects, Audio, new sky, better textures and shaders, and more. To stimulate reach gameplay, the rocket hog model is replaced with the guass warthog model (simalar to RG3 in that model/shader/bitmap/effects are changed but nothing that travels across the network is changed)
Reach Gulch 4 has the changes in RG4 CSS but also has Reach-like damage values, effects, weapons (Plasma Repeater, Grenade Launcher) and also includes the first working prototype of the armor lock ability (RG3 had an unsed disfunctional version in the code). To spawn the ability, press the flashlight trigger. To prevent spamming, spawning this ability drains your shields and kills you if done enough in a short period of time. The ability functions as a vehicle but has no spawn point, so it dissapears after a short time."

Getting Halo/Minecraft Multiplayer to work under an HTTP Proxy
17 October 2011 - 02:38 PM
Also thought I would mention that my dad set up a network internet filter (openDNS) that isn't very good in terms of content but it almost impossible to get around since it changes the DNS server and anything that has content my dad finds unwanted (youtube, games, social networking) it redirects to a blockpage. I used to get around by simply changing to an external DNS server until my dad set up a proxy server so I have to use the openDNS server.
So I cracked the school Wi-fi (though cracking is a generous way to put it), and more often than not the school wifi is unfiltered when no laptop carts are checked out. The main issue I'm having is that to use the wi-fi I have to configure the browser to use an HTTP proxy (namely "web-proxy", port 8080). That works great for my web browsing needs, but when I want to play some minecraft SMP or halo multiplayer after school (those days when i don't have anything very productive to do), nothing works. Minecraft says "can't reach server" and Halo says "Error contacting the gamespy server".
I think the issues is that Halo and Minecraft are not set up to go through the HTTP proxy. I tried Port Tunneling the ports that Minecraft and Halo use (58260-58263 and 2302,2303 respectively). That hasn't seemed to work. So I was wondering if anyone who knows a bit about networking could help.
Dreadnought Model
19 June 2011 - 04:47 PM
I recently created a dreadnought-class forerunner fighter model along with the dock as seen in halo wars, then imported it into blender to texture and export as obj.
Im encountering problems when texturing, no matter what i do it doesn't look visually pleasing. I tried checkering a forerunner-repeating texture onto the model, looked terrible. I created vector groups for each part of the dock with different textures and UV unwrapped it, texturing it like the original. My final product also looked fairly bad, as seen in the render:

It actually looks better without texture, mostly because of the shadow/lighting effects of course

(yes, sketchup
I understand that if i can import it into the halo engine, it will look entirely different, but i would like to make a visually pleasing render of this before I move on. Also Part of the problem may be that I am not advanced in any way when it comes to texturing, if anyone has any suggestions here are the textures i've used so far: (Most are for UV wrap)

Also if im doing something wrong that would be nice to know, here's what i set up so far for the top part of the dock:
